Let’s be honest, food and drink are part of what makes life great. Feasting and snacking are important parts of life. On your own, it makes alone time feel special and wholesome. With others, it’s a way to bond. Even though the kitchen should be sufficient to carry out your culinary pursuits, it can be highly convenient to have a secondary kitchen. Read about these secondary kitchen ideas for inspiration for your custom home design!
Wet Bar, Dry Bar, or Full Kitchen?
A wet bar and a dry bar are both small food and drink stations; the difference is that a wet bar has plumbing, but a dry bar does not. A wet bar has the hookups for a sink and a fridge with a water dispenser. A dry bar still lets you have a fridge or drink cooler, but there won’t be any sink for preparing or cleaning up. A full kitchen, whether it is full-size or a kitchenette, has room for everything.
Places for a Secondary Kitchen in a House
Dining Room
The dining room is usually next to the kitchen, but it can still be a convenient place to set up a secondary kitchen, whether it’s a dry or wet bar. It can be a great place to house and serve your adult beverages or even keep the kids’ snacks.
Basement
The basement is a great space to use as a rec room. How convenient is it to have your drinks and snacks available down there? Basements are popular places for secondary kitchens for the sake of entertaining.
Alternatively, the basement can also be a great annex for an aging parent, adult child, or rental tenant. In that case, a full kitchen will be necessary.
Home Office
If your home office is far away from the kitchen, a secondary kitchen could make it more comfortable. When you need a break from at-home work, make yourself a cup of tea or a quick snack. The home office could also double as a small living room, giving the kitchen even more purpose.
Garage
Do you like to use your garage as a rec room? Setting up a custom kitchen will make it a party central!
Living Room
If your living room is disconnected from the kitchen, but you want to enjoy a nice glass and snack while you watch a movie, then a secondary kitchen would fit in nicely.
