Prepare Docks and Seawalls
The first step in protecting your waterfront custom home is to look after the docks and seawalls that you installed over the past few years. Make sure any loose decking is replaced and check for signs of erosion on both the docks and the seawalls. Replacing old or worn out components now can save you trouble later after the storm has come and gone. Make sure that you take down chairs, flags, and anything else that can be blown away. Put them into temporary storage until the storm has passed and it is safe to bring these items out again. Look for water and power lines that you use on your docks and shut them off. By doing this, you can avoid burst pipes, electrical fires, and short circuits.
