If you’re planning a vacation this summer, then you should cross the Bay Bridge. Visiting Maryland’s Eastern Shore is far more entertaining than you might think. Ocean City isn’t the only place that’s worth your time and money. Find out where you can go on your next day trip or road trip, depending on your plans.
Ocean City
We couldn’t leave out the most famous town on the Eastern Shore. Even if you have a routine that you always follow when you go to OC, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other hidden gems that you might not have realized were there before. Fly kites or build sand castles. You can also go go-karting or play some mini-golf that you’ve been missing out on. Then there’s the Boardwalk, full of fun games and delicious food.
Salisbury
Salisbury is often overlooked because of how close it is to Ocean City. Even with the heavy traffic, it isn’t more than an hour away. It’s even bigger than Ocean City, even if OC is more well-known. Go to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium and see the local minor league baseball team, the Delmarva Shorebirds, play. There’s the Salisbury Zoo to entertain the kids and the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art to fascinate the grownups.
Assateague Island
If you love horses, then you owe it to yourself to see the wild ponies of Assateague Island. It’s a national park dedicated to protecting these horses, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go camping. Still, if you’d rather stay in a hotel, then you’ll need to retreat to Ocean City or go to Chincoteague Island, which belongs to Virginia. But if you’re into building up a massive seashell collection, watching the birds fly around, want to go on a breathtaking hike or feel like digging for clams, then this is the place for you. You might never want to leave!
