Your friends at Shore-Line Construction hope that your holiday season this year will be merry and bright! One way to spend the holidays is to gather all of your loved ones around you. But that doesn’t mean you should forget about your pets. After all, they’re part of the family too!
What Your Pets Should Stay Away From
There are many different things that you should keep away from your pets. You won’t always be around to watch them, and even if you are, they can get up to plenty of hijinx! For one thing, don’t let them get to any food, especially the bones of any meat that you’ve just finished eating. Encourage all of your guests to take this approach, especially if your elderly relatives want to spoil their granddog or grand-cat!
If you have set up a room that has nice-smelling incense, candles, or potpourri, make sure that your pets won’t be anywhere nearby. The fumes can affect them in ways that might not be toxic to people. The same advice goes for the area around your Christmas tree and its decorations. In other words, make sure you don’t leave mistletoe, lilies, holly, and tinsel in easy reach.
What They Shouldn’t Eat
Also, make sure to keep your pets from ingesting certain treats that contain harmful substances. While they are relatively harmless to humans, don’t let your pets consume chocolate, grapes, raisins, xylitol, and onions. People can be allergic to all of these things, but they can be poisonous to both puppies and kitties!
Set Up a Hideaway
Be sure to give all of your pets a safe space to rest after a big day. Noise and the presence of strangers can upset your pets, even if they aren’t furry and four-legged! That’s why you need to keep kennels, crates, perches, and scratching posts somewhere that your pets can access. You can also set them up with some toys, blankets, and snacks to keep them occupied if they are shy around your guests.
