Spring Cleaning Your Custom Home

Spring Cleaning Your Custom Home

You’ve probably done plenty of spring cleaning before, but here are some quick tips and tricks to get your 2020 cleaning off to the right start!

Although the first day of spring is technically still a week away, we’re seeing some warmer weather here on the East Coast, which means spring is not far! With spring barely more than a week away, you may be thinking about this year’s spring cleaning. You’ve probably done plenty of spring cleaning before, but here are some quick tips and tricks to get your 2020 cleaning off to the right start!

Out with the Old

That old shirt from Great Aunt Mildred that hangs way in the back of your closet? Get rid of it! Those shoes you bought for a Halloween costume and only wore once? They can go too! Gather all the items you just don’t use anymore. Clothes, shoes, handbags, children’s toys, and more! You may be surprised and what’s just taking up space in your home. You can separate the items into categories, such as: consign, yard sale, donate, and garbage. The more you get rid of, the less you have to clean and organize!

Scrub, Dust, and Polish

This is the part that most homeowners tend to dread the most, but it doesn’t have to be arduous! Put on your favorite playlist, radio station, or audiobook. Go room-by-room and make sure you get into all of those tricky nooks and crannies. Take a top-to-bottom approach, this way you have gravity on your side and you don’t end up cleaning the same areas multiple times!

Get Organized

Now that everything is looking all shiny and new, it’s time to organize it! For this, you should put things in places that make sense. You will want to start in areas primarily used for storage, such as the garage, closets, and pantry.

Closets- hang clothing by season: tops and dresses should be grouped by sleeve length, and pants and shorts should go by length as well. Shoes should be grouped together in a similar manner, with the ones you’ll wear the most being the closest to hand.

Garage- this is the best place to store athletic equipment, kayaks, fishing equipment, and other things used outdoors. Your local hardware store will have many different utility shelving solutions. Choose the one that works best for you!

Pantry- any pantry, big or small, quickly becomes chaotic if it’s not organized well. Your needs for pantry organization will vary according to the needs of your family. Tupperware and various clear bins and canisters can be a huge help in keeping an organized pantry!
