With Memorial Day and the unofficial start of summer come and gone, it is time to make sure your home is ready for another hot, humid Maryland summer. As hot as temperatures outside can get, one of the most difficult parts of summer can be staying cool. That’s where your AC unit will come to your rescue! Or will it? Here are 3 reasons you should schedule your AC checkup before temperatures get any warmer!
Keep Air Flowing
When you turn on your AC unit, you should feel cold air flowing. If the air coming out is just cool and not cold, or there isn’t any air coming out of the vents at all, that is a sign of a problem. You may also notice temperature differences going from one room to another. All rooms should be approximately the same temperature and there should be plenty of cold air flowing when the system turns on. These airflow issues can be indicative of problems within the compressor of your AC unit. Your technician will be able to address it during the checkup.
What’s That Smell? Did You Hear that Noise?
Your trusty AC unit works day and night to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. Beyond that tell-tale humming noise when the system is on, you probably don’t even notice it at all. In fact, most people don’t notice until there’s a problem. Sometimes when there is a problem with your AC unit, it will inform you with odd sounds or smells. If you notice anything even a little bit different from normal activity, mention it to the tech before your AC checkup.
Malfunctioning Thermostat
The thermostat is arguably one of the most important units of your AC system. After all, it is supposed to tell the unit when to run and shut off. But what happens when your thermostat isn’t keeping the temperature where it’s supposed to? No matter how “smart” the device is, a thermostat can still malfunction. Your technician can pinpoint any problems and let you know if anything needs replacing.
