7 Maryland Rivers for Waterfront Living

7 Maryland Rivers for Waterfront Living

Establish your home along one of Maryland’s beautiful rivers!

Maryland is a beautiful state, often underrated in its natural beauty. Its relatively mild winters and balmy summers make it a breezy and beautiful place to call home. One of its prime features is the many rivers and bodies of water that run through its land. With so many rivers, there are many waterfront home opportunities. Here are just seven Maryland rivers that you might wish to view from your window every day.

Chesapeake Bay

While not technically a river, the Chesapeake Bay had to be on this list as one of the most iconic Maryland bodies of water. It is the prime place for crabbing, fishing, sailing, and boating. Living on the Bay gives one plenty of waterfront living opportunities. Be aware, however, that your position on this shoreline could lend you stronger winds from the Atlantic than not.

Severn River

The Severn River spears through Maryland’s upper central region, south of Severna Park, Arnold, and Glen Burnie, but north of Annapolis and Crownsville. On the river, one can enjoy scenic views without the wildness of the Bay.

Magothy River

The Magothy River is directly north and northeast of the Severn. The peninsula between these two rivers is called Broadneck. The Magothy River is far broader and shorter, but has plenty of inlets as well. Lake Shore is directly north of this river, while Cape St. Claire is south.

Patapsco River

If Baltimore is where your life is at, then a waterfront property overlooking the Patapsco River is for you. North and northeast of the Magothy, it allows one to be close to the city but secluded on the water.

Potomac River

The Potomac River is historic, creating the border between Maryland and Virginia from the south and winding upward past Washington, D.C., along western Maryland’s southern border. This mighty river has numerous waterfront land opportunities, whether you are plan to live in the west, middle, or south of the state.

Nanticoke River

The Nanticoke River is long and skinny with many connecting streams, located on Maryland’s southern Eastern Shore between Dorchester and Wicomico counties. This river is not far from Salisbury and lends one to a slower pace in life.

South River

If you prefer to stay close to Annapolis, South River may be your area. Here, you’ll find neighborhoods like Edgewater, Riva, and Mayo. The area boasts of great schools from elementary to high, with the Naval Academy not far away.
